2011 Technology Innovation Award

At Digital Ball® 2011, Accenture announced the winner of the 2011 TechBridge Technology Innovation Award:

The Southwest Georgia Area Health Education Center’s (AHEC) mission is to improve access to healthcare by increasing the number and distribution of healthcare providers in 38 counties across southwestern Georgia. The targeted counties are made up of more than 835k people and represent areas underserved by primary care and mental health professionals according to federal standards.

AHEC hopes to implement technology to better collaborate with key stakeholders such as community, medical students, health professionals, clinical sites and clinical preceptors. Specifically, AHEC is seeking to create a comprehensive website that will help them: collect donations online; leverage social networking to reach more people; to increase collaboration, automate data collection and training processes; and enable customized education and training for students, staff and volunteers. We also congratulate our two finalists:

For the past 59 years, The Diabetes Association of Atlanta, Inc. (DAA) has served the Metro Atlanta community through its mission to improve the quality of life for people with diabetes through screening, education and medical assistance. Over 70% of the people currently served by DAA are members of minority populations and live at or below the poverty level. DAA’s four core programs are: 1) Diabetes Self Management Education; 2) Community Early Detection/Glucose Screenings; 3) Medical Assistance and, 4) Youth Diabetes Prevention (Healthy Habits Youth Program).

DAA is seeking to update its server, establish a centralized patient information hub and incorporate automated systems to eliminate inefficient paper processes. More importantly, automated systems will streamline and significantly improve DAA’s patient follow up process. Currently, DAA is limited to providing a one-time service without influencing long-term results and making an impact on lessening diabetes in Georgia. Learn more at www.diabetesatlanta.org.

For 30 years, Lutheran Services of Georgia (LSG) has provided services ranging from adoption, foster care and family support services, to refugee services, disaster response, and support for adults with developmental disabilities. In 2010, LSG’s 20-plus programs served over 6,300 individuals in 72 Georgia counties.

In order to better serve its growing state-wide client base, LSG needs increased technical capacity, including an intranet and web-based data input and a centralized case management system, to provide better communication between its Atlanta headquarters, field workers and partnering agencies. LSG projects that new systems will increase productivity and increase outreach to new clients by 25%, helping it secure more placements for special needs children and adults, adoptions for vulnerable children, assistance for victims of natural disasters, and shelter and employment for refugees.
